Empowering Children Through Social and Emotional Learning

MYSELF: Mississippi Youth Social-Emotional Learning Foundation, led by Jessie Hawkins, M.Ed., Behavior Specialist, specializes in social and emotional learning (SEL) for children, helping children develop social skills, manage emotions, and improve coping strategies. Mrs. Jessie provides individual and group social-emotional learning sessions in a calming, sensory environment, to K-12 children.

The Mississippi Department of Education developed a set of educational standards to be implemented in daily learning to address the social and emotional needs of all students to ensure their success in school and in life. Developing SEL skills improves student capacity to engage in academic learning and prepares students to meet college and career readiness standards (CCRS). The Mississippi SEL Standards assists educators in integrating social emotional learning into daily classroom and school experiences of students. These standards establish social and emotional learning as a priority in education and will support children beyond academics:

Domain 1: Self-awareness

Domain 2: Self-management

Domain 3: Social awareness

Domain 4: Relationship skills

Domain 5: Decision-making skills
